If not explicitly stated, the vertical axis is z-levels.

Year 1991-1998 -> spin up with minimal output

Monthly

2D

  • SSH: zos
  • bottom T and S: tob, sob
  • MLD: mlotst
  • vertically summed mass transport: umo_2d, vmo_2d
  • Surface stress: tauuo, tauvo
  • Terms for SWMT: hfds (net surface boundary heat flux), wfo (surface mass flux), fsitherm (water flux to ocean from snow/sea ice melting or formation), salt_flux (Net salt flux into ocean at surface (restoring + sea-ice)), salt_flux_added (salt flux into ocean at surface due to restoring), lrunoff (Liquid runoff (rivers) into ocean)
  • Sea ice concentration, thickness and melt: siconc, sithick, net_melt

3D

  • Volume: volcello on z- and rho-levels
  • Mass transport on rho-levels: umo, vmo
  • Velocities: uo, vo
  • Temperature: thetao
  • Salinity: so
  • Density referenced to 0m and 2000m: rhopot0, rhopot2
  • Age: agessc on z- and rho-levels

Daily (from 1996)

2D

  • SSH: zos
  • surface velocities
  • Sea ice concentration and thickness: siconc, sithick
  • Surface stress: tauuo, tauvo

Year 1999-2001 -> main analysis period for comparison with 1/40°

Everything above and in addition:

Monthly

2D

  • Precipitation: precip
  • sea ice transport: FA_X, FA_Y

3D

  • Monthly T advection zonal, meridional T_adx,T_ady on z and rho levels
  • Temperature on rho levels: thetao

Snapshots

  • Volume: volcello on rho-levels at end of month

Year 2002-2007: Run continued with minimal output as in spinup 1991-1998

Year 2008-2010: Final 3 years with most output:

Everything above and in addition:

Daily

2D

  • MLD: mlotst
  • Sea ice melt: net_melt

3D

  • Volume: volcello on z- and rho-levels
  • Mass transport on rho-levels: umo, vmo
  • Velocities: uo, vo
  • Temperature: thetao
  • Salinity: so

Does that look good to everyone? Did I forget something? @adele-morrison @willaguiar @ongqingyee @MatthisAuger @julia-neme

(edit: save daily 2D from year 1996, not save daily T/S for 1999-2001)

Thanks Christina! Also , can you add monthly agessc in z and rho levels for 1999-2001?

Looks good to me! Thanks Christina

Thanks for compiling Christina! A few comments:

  1. I suggest NOT saving 3D daily T/S for 1999-2001. We don’t have this for 1/40th to compare and I don’t think anyone needs it?

  2. @MatthisAuger, in your paper you currently use 4 years of continuous daily T/S/zos right? Are you happy to reduce to 3 years, or do we want to save these for 2007-2010?

  3. I thought @ongqingyee wanted a longer time series of 2d daily SSH and sea ice and winds?

I don't have agessc on rho levels, FA_X, FA_Y, the advection on rho levels, thetao on rho levels, daily surface velocities. I've run 2006 almost complete, but it is already taking ~5hs for 2 months due to the amount of diagnostics.

Should I re run? Should I add diagnostics and you can do with the gap? I'm holding off for now.

The diags on rho levels are for @willaguiar : Do you need them for these later years in 1/10° or do you just want to compare them between the 1/20° and 1/40°?

I think you are saving daily u and v, right? So don't bother about surface velocities. FA_X, FA_Y was potentially used by @ongqingyee. I don't think it' worth rerunning for that but you could save it for 2007-2010?

I am saving them throughout the whole run. Whatever I save for the spinup will be saved later on as well.

  1. I added the 3D daily T/S for 1999-2001 for @MatthisAuger in case we don't get enough compute time to actually run 20 years. But if we decide to run 20 years when we get new compute time next quarter, I will not save daily T/S for 1999-2001.

2D daily

  • SSH: zos
  • surface velocities
  • Sea ice concentration and thickness: siconc, sithick
  • Surface stress: tauuo, tauvo

Christina, could you save these for the minimal output period of 2002-2007 as well? I'm not sure if that was implied or not above.

  1. I thought @ongqingyee wanted a longer time series of 2d daily SSH and sea ice and winds?

@adele-morrison yes you are right.
@schmidt-christina we also briefly talked about starting to save the daily diags above (ssh, sea ice, stress) from model year 4, as the AABW transport across the 1000m isobath is more stable in Fig 1 of your paper, and I am focusing on the shelf/surface. Is this still possible?
This would give me data from 1996(?) - 2010 with the additional 2002-2007 period, so 14 years which would be great.

@julia-neme I can only speak re FA_X, FA_Y and daily surf velocities. I've mainly been using ssh to calculate surface geostrophic velocities, and I don't use FA_X and FA_Y at the moment. I'm happy with the ssh, sea ice and surface stress diagnostics that you already have and I don't think it is worth rerunning. I agree with saving them for 2007-2010 since it is smaller/2d.

@ongqingyee It wasn't, but saving these diagnostics now for 1996-2010 (updated first post accordingly)

I don't think I can keep running actually - no more compute time at x77. So the panant-01-zstar-ACCESSyr1 goes until September 2016.
