Multi Channel High Voltage Pulse Generator Board

This is our open-source hardware and custom electronics solution for microfluidic droplet sorting pulses. It is used as part of "Ritmos,” our Real-time Technology for Microfluidic Droplet Sorting, as well as other microfluidics development projects. We implemented a board that features six HV pulse generator and amplification channels for the possibility of multi-electrode sorting of large droplets or multi-way sorting applications; however, it is possible to use only one channel for traditional sorting. The board is designed around an ESP32 microcontroller which controlls the pulse duration, frequenzy, final amplitude (by regulating the input voltage into the transformers) and the time coordination between the electrode channels. This information can be exchanged via an SPI protocol, with the RedPitaya FPGA computer used in the Ritmos sorter to trigger each electrode pulse. Alternatively, these settings can be fixed by Wi-Fi or USB connections, and the response can be evoked through simple triggers that potentially come from other devices.
