Please explain your issue in full and with as much detail as you can:
Every time I try to get a new player into modded minecraft, one who plays base but has never played modded, they get one look at NEI/JEI and nope the fuck out. I recommend that it start visually disabled--an option JEI natively has a keybinding for--and be one of the first few quests in the quest book to turn it on, while explaining what it is, and how it works.
A lot of us take JEI for granted, but since Academy is for new players I don't think we should ignore JEI in our training quests. Enabling JEI should be a prominent first step that really tells the player "You are now playing Modded" while teaching them how to turn it back off again will let them integrate at their own speed and convenience.
