While testing wild hearts, I noticed that certain VFX of weapon attacks would lead to massive FPS slowdown. A good example would be the carakury staff (ingame weapon), performing its special attack or dual tonfa attack will cause the games frame time graph to go haywire when the VFX is engaged. Additionally this also happens when interacting with certain objects. These behavior arent present when testing with RADV.

Steps to reproduce:

  • Start Wild Hearts with these lauch options:
    • gamemoderun mangohud VK_ICD_FILENAMES=/run/opengl-driver/share/vulkan/icd.d/amd_icd64.json %command%
  • Load into the game in a place were the player can use a weapon
  • Equip carakury staff
  • Perform an attack that uses VFX
  • Interact with a building
  • Frame time should start going haywire during these interactions

Hardware:

  • Proton: ProtonGE 9-11
  • OS: Nixos (nixos-unstable branch)
  • Driver version: 2024.q3.1
  • Kernel: xanmod-6.10.6
  • Compositor: Hyprland version 0.42.0 (wayland only)
  • GPU: Sapphire 7900XTX Pulse
  • CPU: 7800X3D
  • RAM: 2x16GB 6000mhz CL 30

Here is a video demonstrating the issue.
