I'd like to see a feature that makes it so attacks that are supposed to launch Link backward trigger the full animation if it's a killing blow, rather than forcing the death animation or making him awkwardly stop in the air to die if airborne. Then, force the death animation and the game over cutscene when he gets up from the floor. But if he has a fairy in a bottle at any point during a death, skip the death animation and fairy regen cutscene altogether so that the fairy is consumed instantaneously instead.
This speeds things up by treating bottled fairies as the overworld fairies that get consumed when touched. No need to see a cutscene every time you die with one in your inventory. This is how it works in later Zelda titles.
