Randomly when I play a sound effect it will seemingly play it twice at the same time, giving this echo-sounding effect. I have tried and tried and can't seem to find a consistent reproduction for it. It feels truly random for me.
This is (partially) intended behavior and will inevitably occur as an artefact when playing through the same output device twice. The two audio devices are meant to be one for you to hear and the other one for a virtual input (as output devic) like VB-Cable or Virtual Sink on Linux.
I should default to no audio device or make the usecase for the second one clearer I guess.
So try selecting a different device for one of the outputs (ideally install Vb Cable).

Here is a video of the effect. Notice it sounds echoed at 5s, 14s, and 36s. Seemingly no pattern. This happens regardless of file type.
