This isn't exactly an answer, but work on metadata for software includes https://codemeta.github.io, which might help either directly or by some of the things it points to |

Does anyone know of controlled vocabularies or taxonomies for software, such as a controlled list of programing languages, or types of software, etc? Interesting in using these to build a software search interface for Heliophysics software.
