Issue Description

As first noticed by @taukakao and confirmed by me too, the GNOME Xorg session is broken currently and it seems to be the case since last month too (I verified the issue on my oldest image VM last updated on 21/6/24).

I believe this regression might be introduced after we updated GNOME Shell to 46. (cc @jardon)

Steps to Reproduce

  • Go to the GDM login screen.
  • Select the user.
  • Select "GNOME on Xorg" session.

On what version of Vanilla OS this happens?

Unreleased

There appears to be an upstream bug for this. Either xorg needs to be patched or the gstreamer1.0-vaapi package needs to be removed as a workaround.

This seems to be the case in VMs only (there are examples in the issue that jardon linked). I'm not sure it should have priority since the default is Wayland and it works pretty well in VM (in my tests at least).
