Multi hop integrated in desktop apps

The same people that may not want to install a browser extension (for fingerprinting reasons, attack surface reduction or whatever) may want to use double hop.

Hence, it would be great to be able to use multi hop directly from the desktop apps.

Describe alternatives you've considered

1. Use the browser extension but this is not appropriate.
2. Use another VPN provider. IVPN provides double hop on all desktop and mobile platforms. Mullvad supports it on the three major desktop OS.

Is there any reasoning why it was not done before ?
