The outflow on the lower part of the system is too narrow. The tubes get clogged by roots once the plants (like tomatoes) are half developed and have built a lot of root material. Once the tube is clogged, water will not recirculate back to the tank and the system will completely fail.
As only solution, I see the use of larger tubes for the back-flow.
