Remove the following languages from Back In Time in the 2rd upcoming release (1.6.1). That will likely be in spring 2025.

  • Bosnian
  • Foraese
  • Occidential/Interlingua
  • Croatian
  • Slovak
  • Greek
  • Lithuanian

Reasons:

  • No known or responsive translators.
  • No translations since a very long time period, some of them never since we re-animated the translation project more than 2 years ago.
  • No translation, also after several contacts to translators, user in that country and language specific translation communities.
  • Even our request new translators messaging window within the application itself has not attracted any user as potential translator so far. Therefore, I assume that there are very few, if any, BIT users with this language setting.
  • This languages do have the lowest completeness.

Next steps:

  1. Wait until version 1.6.0 (2nd from now) is out round about christmas.
  2. Refresh requests for translation using the known contacts and communities (on my private list).
  3. Using announce feature on Weblate.
  4. Final request combined with deadline for removal. It will be the 3rd release from now (see milestone), which should be version 1.6.1.

My hope is that removal won't be necessary because translators will come up.

Alternative to discuss

In releases do not include that languages. But keep in the repo. Add another warn dialog (so many actually 😄 ) for users using this language code about their language translation need contribution or it will get removed in the end.

But to my experience with intensive contact to the language specific users and translators community I am assuming this won't bring up new translators and it isn't worth the work and resources.

Hello Adan,

welcome to the project and thank you for your reply.

What do you mean by "work"? Remove a language or improve its translation? For the latter #1915 fits better and also describe how to contribute to the translation.

You are from Paraguay and your native language is Spanish (completeness at 84% currently)?

Regards,
Christian

Hello @buhtz Sorry for the lack of description in my previous comment I would have no problem to help a little with the Spanish translations, or with removing those languages I would like to contribute to open source in any way I can.

Hello Adan,
the confusion was my responsibility. Using the labels "good first issue" and "help-wanted" might not be a good choice for this issue.

Removing the listed languages is scheduled for spring next year (see milestone of this issue). And I will do this on my own and also hoping that someone will jump in and rescue these listed languages. ;)

Anyway. Have a look at #1915. There is a short description how to use our translation platform.

Let me know if I can be of any more assistance. Don't hesitate to ask (at #1915).
