Help needed: webcam (rtsp) to youtube with fallback

Hello,

i got an rtsp webcam which i want to publish to youtube. The (animal) webcam is powered by solar panels so i have a fallback image/mp4 which i want to be streamed when the camera is not available.

I tried to set it up like that:

paths:
  main:
    source: rtsp://url:port/path
    sourceProtocol: automatic
    fallback: rtsp://localhost:8554/fallbackpath

  fallbackpath:
    runOnInit: ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i /home/rtsp/animalcam/out.mp4 -c copy -f rtsp rtsp://localhost:$RTSP_PORT/$RTSP_PATH
    runOnInitRestart: yes

It doesnt seem to work. Any idea on how i could achieve my goal with rtsp simple server?

I think i found the solution: i had to replace localhost with the actual ip and increase the readbuffer for a more stable image.

Edit: i just tested the fallback and it seems to work as expected but it won't switch back to the original source once the original rtsp stream becomes available again. Any idea on how to achieve that?

Hello, the problem of fallback is that it acts exactly like an HTTP redirect, it redirects users to another stream, and exactly like an HTTP redirect it's impossible to go back once you've been redirected.

You fully control your stream only by using a video editing software like OBS studio, that allows to insert, drag and delete things dynamically in a stream.
