I like the idea. However, we have looked at that in the past and it is not a straightforward thing to do. We sometimes have more than one popular name for the same species. Also, our databases sometimes discriminate at an even lower level. I would for instance not immediately know how to assign different popular names for Daphnia magma and Daphnia Pulex, or for the different Rice subspecies. We can probably solve that, but it will require some thinking.
Add the common name of a species (besides the Latin one) to help people search here https://www.bridgedb.org/data/gene_database/ as a new column
