Portal uses this to offer an "embed" feature where you just post a regular URL into it and they use these oembed providers to get the embed URL, then construct a (responsive) embed frame using that URL. This is a great way to approach this and could be useful on the Exhibitions app where I try to do the same thing on a smaller scale (for only YouTube & Vimeo I think).
