Sorry, this is not actually an issue regarding the code, but I don't know where else to turn...

Why have you stopped providing the ready-to-install zip files, as linked in your posts on xda-developers (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1760929) or slatedroid (http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/33373-rom-cm9-nightlies/):

http://www.androidfilehost.com/main/Allwinner_A10_Developers/christiantroy/roms/
http://allwinner-cm9.googlecode.com/files/cm9_nightly_20120913.zip
http://allwinner-cm9.googlecode.com/files/gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip

Is it easy for anybody to create those files themselves or why have they been removed while the compatibility zips are still available?

I needed space on my cloud storage, I don't have them anymore though I'm sorry.

Thanks for the reply. Would a noob like me (I am a Computer Science PhD student, but have never done anything with Android so far) be able to compile the rom files myself from the source code you provided here? Could you recommend a good online tutorial?

I have no degrees and I never studied IT, I'm a self learner so everyone can do it :) Unfortunately I don't know any online tutorial, I started by trial and error

It was one of the first things I realised at uni, that the education you get there does not make you an expert like you and so many others. :-) So I take it, the code you have in this repo is enough to create all rom files again?

You should merge the forked cm repos with the upstream code as it will be outdated and wont build

OK thanks!

My original interest in the whole thing was actually because of a friend's old Yarvik tablet whose original rom was screwed. I would have liked to install your cyanogen rom instead. My friend got another tablet by now. I still have his old Yarvik in my drawer. So at some point, I might give compiling your code a try; more out of curisosity then for actual practicality, I guess.

Anyway thanks again for answering my questions; albeit on this abandonned project of yours.

When you want to compile cm9 then you can use my local_manifest:
https://github.com/fire855/android_device_907/blob/cm-9/README.mkdn
But It's not fully compiling because christiantroy merged jellybean cedarx changes into ics and so the cedarx compiling seems to be broken.

I really don't remember what I did back in the days, if it's something I had merged you can revert the commit
