MIT or BSD, because they're simple.

Am i right, that the only difference is: with BSD others have to cite this project, with MIT they can redistribute without citing us.

With BSD software you have to distribute the licence with it. With MIT you don't. The licence contains the name of the copyright holder.
BSD-2-Clause
BSD-3-Clause
MIT

I only have little experience with choosing a proper license. I've dealt now the first time a bit deeper with software licenses.

A few notes:

  • I always thought you can even relicence software with with MIT-Licence. I always expected it to be a license kinda like "do what the fuck you want licence". But no, you can only relicense it to a stricter one. And you have to pass the license on.
  • If we choose BSD, I'd definitely prefer BSD-3-Clause over BSD-2-Clause.
  • Any thoughts about GPL-Licenses?
  • What about Apache LIcense? The apache License has a nice "feature", that any contribution sent to the project, is automatically licensed as "Apache" by the contributor. So there shall not be a DCO/CLA needed.
