If you're fine not getting integrated into the Debian repositories themselves, makedeb provides a very simplistic way to create Debian packages compared to standard Debian packaging.
You could also upload the package to the MPR after, allowing you to target a decently sized user base. You could also just publish the deb under a release or your own APT repository afterwards.
