DPC++ installation error #14897

Hi,

I'm trying to build DPC++ with following options:

-DLLVM_ENABLE_RUNTIMES=openmp
-DBUILD_SHARED_LIBS=ON
-DLLVM_ENABLE_EH=ON
-DLLVM_ENABLE_RTTI=ON
-DLLVM_PARALLEL_LINK_JOBS=64
-DOPENMP_ENABLE_LIBOMPTARGET=OFF
-DLLVM_STATIC_LINK_CXX_STDLIB=ON

then running from buildbot/

python3 configure.py --cmake-gen "Ninja" --host-target "X86" -t Release

and

python3 compile.py -j 60

After that (from the build directory):

ninja install

Produces:

  file INSTALL cannot find
  "/home/tapio/PROJECT/repositories/llvm_oneapi_T/llvm/third-party-programs.txt":

Despite this error, up until last week I have been able to compile and offload SYCL code, but doing a fresh build today there seems to be an issue with missing libLLVMSPIRVLib.so. More specifically, this library seems to exist in the /lib of the build path, but it never makes it to the /lib of the installation path. So, any ideas how to prevent the error shown above (I assume that is preventing some of the libraries being copied to the installation path)?

Okay, now I see the problem. You link LLVM libraries dynamically. It's not recommended for users.
See LLVM's documentation - https://llvm.org/docs/CMake.html#llvm-related-variables

BUILD_SHARED_LIBS is only recommended for use by LLVM developers.

LLVM shared libraries are not installed. Installation logic assumes that LLVM libraries are linked statically.

What do you expect from building install target?
If you want to get a directory with DPC++ compiler installed, please, build deploy-sycl-toolchain target instead.

BTW, deploy-sycl-toolchain is built by default by compile.py script. You can find the DPC++ installation in your <workspace>/build/install directory.

I was following the tutorial from https://portablecl.org/docs/html/sycl_with_pocl_arm.html#using-sycl-with-pocl and my goal is to offload spirv from DPC++ to PoCL.

I'm relatively novice with this, but I was expecting that install would copy the binaries and libraries from the build directory to install directory.
After executing compile.py, the llvm libraries are present on build directory but not on install directory. So, llvm-spirv from the install directory cannot link to the libraries (note that I have altered the install directory from the default):
