I think using a field to track state is enough, probably no need for a "done" tag, which might be redundant?

The reason for using tag done is to see it visually on Tiddlywiki!, because you can see each task as an individual tiddler
But, if we go with a field, which is hidden in view by default, then we may need some indicator.

Sidenote: I think Shiraz Task Manager which was written as an example at that time needs overhaul, both to resolve some issues and uses the new features of TW5.2.1, for example Cascades can help to go with a single field and show done tasks (tiddlers) for example with green title, ...

Thanks~ Can you help me to clarify the usage of cascade? I believe I can use the cascade mechanism of view template to add an indicator to the view template, but does that mean the whole view template will be replaced? Can I just conditionally add an indicator (if that field exists) to the bottom of the tiddler?

For example if you want to show a tiddler task with running in orange and task with done status in green see https://tiddlywiki.com/prerelease/#View%20Template%20Title%20Cascade

In cascade you check a status like a field value and then decide how to display title.
You can also use an icon for done/running using https://tiddlywiki.com/prerelease/#Tiddler%20Icon%20Cascade

Note how HelloThere uses a blue globe icon:

Oh, I was always curious about that blue globe icon.

Got it, each part has its cascade, and cascade is triggering full replacement of that part. So to add a "field form" that can show and edit field in custom display, I may need to add a new part, and create its own cascade system.

That's true! You can replace the whole view template using cascades!
This is also wonderful for fishing plugin
