Migratie to Calico operator

Has anyone explored using the Calico operator instead of the manifests? (https://docs.tigera.io/calico/latest/operations/operator-migration). It is now the default and recommended it seems, and has a migration process built in.

I was looking to use the Calico API server and noticed it wasn't installed, which is limiting me to crd.projectcalico.org/v1 and unable to use projectcalico.org/v3 (https://docs.tigera.io/calico/latest/operations/install-apiserver). v1 is not supported anymore (projectcalico/calico#6412).

Wondering if this approach has been explored already, and whether it should be? If so, then adding as a feature request.
