It seems that librex is no longer maintained, there is a fork called LibreY

I'm also someone who worked on LibreX and made my own project with LibreJS called Araa https://github.com/Extravi/araa-search it's independent and written in python using flask

the JavaScript is framework free and open source under the gpl and the project itself is also gpl

you might find it interesting please let me know and JavaScript can be disabled from user settings if you wanted to do that but it's open source anyway
