U021. Union Session: Science for All - Organizing Agile Openness
Session Description:
Everyday new problems emerge and it takes groundbreaking scientific discoveries to solve them. To meet these challenges and foster transformative breakthroughs we must accelerate the pace of science by increasing accessibility, transparency and enabling agile collaboration as a transdisciplinary approach to science across scales. Earlier this year, the White House formally recognized 2023 as a “Year of Open Science." This session will highlight Federal Agencies actions to advance open science in federally-supported research and explore the expanding role of open-source science combined with low latency in supporting time-sensitive decision making, while also promoting transdisciplinary partnerships to guide action, emphasizing the importance of data latency in driving timely outcomes. Of relevance to the whole community, this dialogue targets effective practices that increase societal impact of transparent, inclusive, and reproducible Earth and space sciences research and application. The union session will be organized around two panel discussions and a supporting poster session.
Panel 1: Year of Open Science Federal Agency leadership panel (Invited abstracts only)
Panel 2: Science for decision making panel (Invited abstracts only)
Poster Session: Open for decisions: This poster session focuses on effective practices that increase societal impact and welcomes submissions that highlight open software, data and knowledge (including algorithms, documents, ancillary information) for decision-making. (Seeking Abstracts.))
