Well, perhaps. But I am of the opinion that win98 icons should be extremely informative, while maintaining the conciseness of artistic performance.
There are unfinished icons of winamp, windows media player 9, media player classic, which can be icons for the software you listed. They may have to be slightly modified (as vlc icon, for example) to make them look different.
Because there are people who have all these programs installed at once and they will lie on the desktop in a row with the same icons, like Boy Scouts 😄

jajaja, I tend to agree with you on this :D Perhaps to some of similar icons, you can change the color of the disc.
