Applying these tags would make the liveblog eligible for Live featuring at the top of search-engine results, and also eligible for regular content updates/reindexing as the liveblog goes on.
Several details are unclear, though:
while the schema can be placed in either the <head>or the <body>, it's unclear whether search engine crawlers would honor the schema if it's within an <iframe>
Patrick stated the following this past week, which doesn't inspire confidence; we'd have to ask Google whether this schema is even still relevant:
I’m reaching out to our Google rep to find out whether this feature still exists or not. Most of the links I’m finding about it are from a couple years ago, and Google has taken its page for this feature offline.
We're going to pass on this for 2018, due to limited time, and revisit in January 2019 for our plans for 2020.
