Discussed during the openMINDS dev meeting and in relation to PR #150:
1. Re-evaluate the use of "technique" in the name of the techniques:
- example: "reconstruction technique"
- reason for use: started with using the same names as are used in the method ontology which typically have "technique" as part of their name, later concluded that we do not want to follow this but kept it for techniques that would be ambiguous without it ("reconstruction" could be the actual reconstruction instead of the process of reconstructing something)
- main reason to remove them now: our instances are group under the same terminology ("technique") which provides the context 2. Update/Re-evaluate instances:
- perturbational complexity index measurement: maybe a name change needed; good definition needed to justify keeping it in Techniques; maybe split needed to cover the right aspects in the right context (some term for the analysis portion and another for the experimental technique)
- quantification: needs a good definition which makes it clear that this is only about "counting" something and does not include any analysis of the results (i.e., I can count labelled cells in a tissue slice (aka quantification), but then analyze the results qualitatively (aka qualitative analysis) or quantitatively (aka quantitative analysis))
- reconstruction technique: re-evaluate name (see point 1); re-evaluate existing terms and potentially split into multiple ones or add techniques that complement the analysis technique
- single gene analysis: "analysis" in the name is confusing and should be reconsidered; might be community standard, but unsure what it entails; need somebody with knowledge in the field to figure out what the term could be called instead, whether it needs to be split into multiple terms, etc.
- tract tracing (and tractography in AnalysisTechnique): need good definitions (tract tracing = injection of tract tracer (direct measure of the tracts) vs. tractography = statistical analysis of imaging data to identify tracts (indirect measure of the tracts))
- DNA methylation analysis: see comment for single gene analysis, same issue
