ViPER should be usable in other virtual machine managers, and in VirtualBox without having to rely on the workaround of enabling 3d acceleration.
When I imported the ViPER OVA as VM on my Synology NAS, the "Oh no something has gone wrong" issue re-appeared. See closed issue #50. The same issue was also reported to me by a Dutch user, who had not checked the 3d acceleration option for ViPER in VirtualBox. Result in both cases: ViPER starts, and often presents the tool icons on the desktop, but there is no Activities bar. Then optionally a messagebox with "vboxclient failed to register resizing support" appears on the desktop and finally the white screen with "Oh no something has gone wrong" is shown. The only option is to log off and on again, after which the process repeats.
A description resembling this issue and providing the "check 3d acceleration" workaround can be found here: https://www.cyberithub.com/solved-oh-no-something-has-gone-wrong-error-in-virtualbox/. The issue seems to be linked to the graphics drivers and/or the guest additions. But (re)installing the guest additions, as some bloggers tell you to do, does not seem to help - tried it.
In my case, Synology's Virtual Machine Manager has no 3d acceleration option to check. I know ViPER is meant to be used in VirtualBox, but it would be great if the ViPER product could be made available for more virtual machine managers then just VirtualBox. And that ViPER can be used without having to rely on the 3d acceleration workaround.
