With Spending Stories we wish to make it easier to compare amount and for you to add your own.</span></p>

<span style="color:#000000;background-color:transparent;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;"></span><p dir="ltr"><span style="color:#000000;background-color:transparent;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;">Spending Stories categorizes its stories by their relative impact and the likelihood that the amounts of money they feature will resonate with the user. “Top stories” are widely read stories from major newspapers and tabloids, whereas “other stories” are less well known.</span></p>

<span style="color:#000000;background-color:transparent;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;"></span><p dir="ltr"><span style="color:#000000;background-color:transparent;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;">Whereas the scale visualization shows how an amount fits into the whole landscape of amounts in the Spending Stories database, the cards visualization picks out stories featuring amounts that are intuitively comparable to the amount (e.g. twice or half as much is “comparable” while 1/256 is not).</span></p>

For the initial data we have mostly focussed on finding spending stories in news articles and tabloids since these are stories people know of, but we also get data from <a href="http://openspending.org/" target="_blank">OpenSpending</a></span><span style="text-decoration:none;"><span style="color:#1155cc;background-color:transparent;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:underline;vertical-align:baseline;"></span></span><span style="color:#000000;background-color:transparent;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;">. Now the data comes from you or other people like you, who contribute stories via the contribution wizard.</span></p>

Pressing this button reveals a snippet of HTML which can be pasted into a website to embed the story.</span></p>
