Hey there,
There could be a couple reasons for that. First we need to make sure that you have actually ran the script till the end. Many people just click "play" in the GoG installer as soon as they see the option. First please confirm that you have done steps 9 to 12 from the website guide:
https://overkill.wtf/fallout-london-steam-deck-1-click-installer/

If you have then the most likely problem is that you have launched the game in Desktop mode and now it's not opening in Gaming mode [or opened with external monitor connected].

In this case to fix it do the following:

  1. Go to Desktop mode
  2. Run the script one more time
  3. Select your version of the game (GoG or Steam)
  4. Select "Update" as the action that you want to perform.
  5. The script will launch Heroic Games Launcher -> Close it as soon as it opens. We don't need to do anything inside it.
  6. The script will launch FOLON installer -> Close it as soon as it opens. We don't need to do anything inside it.
  7. Wait for the "All steps were completed successfully!" screen.

At that point go directly to Gaming mode and run the game from there. Make sure to disconnect any external monitors for the first launch. If you run it from Desktop mode for the first time you will end up with the same exact issue.

Alternatively you could try to run this script:

bash <(curl -s https://raw.githubusercontent.com/krupar101/f4london_steam_deck_ini/refs/heads/main/optimize_folon_steam_deck.sh)

It was created to optimize Fallout London on Steam Deck. It should also bring back all the .ini files to a working condition.

If you decide to go for that please select the recommended preset at first. If you confirm it works you can always play around later :)

Hey,
What you did will work but I would call it a suboptimal solution :)
The "Update" I meant is one of the options our script provides. In general following those steps should have fixed your game - I don't think the paths were different as the script should have recognized if something was wrong.

This exact error was also documented in the PDF guide published on Overkill website (page 56 & 57) in the section "The game crashes on startup".
https://overkill.wtf/content/files/2024/10/Ultimate-Fallout-London-Guide-for-Steam-Deck-and-Linux.pdf

If you would want to properly reinstall the game you can follow the pdf guide from the beginning as it is more in-depth and covers solutions to common problems right next to the installation steps on which those problems occur.

Otherwise, have fun and mind the gap!
