Tracing a raster image to a path with holes

I am unable to find if there's a function for this in the library, or an example of how it works. Illustrator has an image trace function, I am basically looking to do a similar thing.

Given a raster image with a transparency channel like this:

I want to be able to generate path objects (with holes) that look like this:

If there's not already a way to do something like this in the library, consider it a feature request.
