Steps to reproduce

PxWeb admin option "Valueset must be selected" is set to "Yes".
CNMM maintable X has a variable which has valuegroups defined.
PxWeb user selects a valueset or a valuegroup from the "classifications list" in the table X "Selection view" and the corresponding values are properly displayed.
PxWeb user selects "Select classification" from the "classifications list" in the table X "Selection view" and error occurs.

I just noticed that c13e891 may fix this bug?

I am not sure that this will solve @andrus-aru problem.
@MikaelNordberg could this be the same problem as the one you discovered when only having groupings?
