This is a follow up from @wedi in #9
Suggestions for the omnibox feature:

  • customizable keyword
  • add an option whether to register the search provider at all
  • multiple keywords

Chrome declined to add more than one keyword: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=75890

I'd rather type quiji than have the extension hijack every time I google for Jira.

How about it takes IJRA? It's easy enough to remember...

I keep disabling this chrome extension, simply because it messes with my searches.
Can you just let us disable the omnikeyword then? I search many more times a day than I need to invoke via keyword.

I understand your pain, but it’s quite tricky - there might be a lot of users who actually use the omnibox keyword (Chrome says 10.000+ users alone). Changing the keyword to something else might break their workflows.

The culprit is the browser as there is no option to toggle the functionality by the user.

In Chrome.95, I manage to solve this selecting TAB (browser tab) instead of Space/Tabulator...
... Is on search direct access section chrome://settings/searchEngines

image

Now I have the option to:

  1. Type jira + space and do a normal/browser search
  2. Type jira + tabulator and do a quiji search
  3. Type jira + click to choose quiji or browser search

image

Of course, this is not extension related, is search behaviour.. but I'm ok with that and prefer to invoque custom search with a dedicate key press like Tab instead of the anoying normal space.

Why is it not possible to add an option in the extension settings page to enable/disable the Omnibox integration, as others have said it's very irritating when I google for something jira related and this extension hijacks it, I have never used this feature nor do I intend to. Please add a option to disable the Omnibar funtionality

Unfortunately that is not possible. The feature needs to be registered in the manifest.json and can't be changed or toggled on runtime. Google and the other browser vendors would need to add support for this. (https://issues.chromium.org/issues/41168507)

For now you can simply hit backspace after you typed jira <space> and the omnibox won't be used.

I see, hopefully, FireFox at least provides this option at some point
