Helping people helping each other

developed by team #nerdishByNature at hackzurich

Using scanning for nearby people we produced an app that is capable of creating a real-time infrastructure to help people in emergency situations. The infrastructure itself based on the p2pkit by Uepaa-AG enables small-scale communication networks to exchange data quickly.

This first aid solution does not need registration, a server backend or other more complex infrastructure elements which makes it more flexible and even capable of helping out in emergency situations where you don't have a well established Network service such as on the countryside or crowded places.

The iOS App

The main screen of the application allows to call broadcasts, view the latest emergency nearby and enter the settings pane. If you call for help you will see the emergency view that informs you about the number of people that paid attention to your request.

The settings pane allows to enable calling a given emergency number on top of broadcasting the emergency message to nearby people. You should also define your personal emergency message that will be displayed in the receiver's notification alert. People with chronic diseases may refer to those and their emergency/standard medication so that the potential rescuers are better prepared.
