FLIP Fluids addon: The Complete Guide

As Blender 2.8 and later updated with a new GUI we will be updating the info in our older videos with a new series FLIP Fluids addon: The Complete Guide that focuses on settings, features, and how to use them! In addition to this new series, the Creative Learning Series lower on this page will also continue using the latest versions of Blender.

If you are new to FLIP Fluids or Blender 2.8+, start with this series!

Episode 1: How to Get Started (New and updated for 2023!) Learn the basics! How to install the FLIP Fluids addon or Free Trial, as well as how to run and render a simulation.
Episode 2a: Object Types In the first part of this two part episode, learn about the Domain, Fluid, and Obstacle object types, as well as some handy workflow tips!
Episode 2b: Object Types In the second part of this episode, learn all about Inflows and Outflow settings, and how to use them!
Episode 3a: Mastering Foam Learn the secrets of whitewater! In part 1 of a 2 part episode, we start with Foam! We'll help you understand all settings, and afterwards you'll be able to set your scene up for realistic renderings.
Episode 3b: Mastering Bubbles, Spray, and Dust In part 2 of this 2 part episode, we will help you understand how to set up the simulator for bubbles, spray, and dust particles. We will also explain how the difference whitewater settings can affect particle generation.
Guide: Solving 5 Common Issues We've gathered five of the most common issues that are faced when using our FLIP Fluids addon and show you how to solve them: volume loss, mesh flickering, finding the helper menu, small inflows not generating liquid, how to turn an inflow on/off, and more tips and tricks!
Episode 4: Mastering Force Fields In this episode you will learn how to manipulate gravity, let fluid flow along a path, generate a whirlpool, and more using our point, surface, volume, and curve guided force fields!
Guide: Mixbox in the FLIP Fluids Addon Learn how to install and use the new FLIP Fluids Mixbox plugin! The Mixbox technology is a physically-based color blending tool developed by Secret Weapons and our plugin based around this tool helps you create vibrant multi-color simulations.
Guide: FLIP Fluids Addon Preset Library Learn how to install and use the new FLIP Fluids Preset Library! The preset scenes library feature has now begun an initial test phase for the integration into the Blender Asset Browser.
Episode 5: Mastering Imported Geometry Learn all about using imported geometry in the FLIP Fluids addon! This episode will cover common geometry issues and how to use imported geometry in your simulations such as animated FBX files, objects with thin walls, landscapes, and how to use a new feature to automate remeshing a complex collection of objects.
Guide: Tips for Effective FLIP Fluids Support in Blender Learn how to effectively submit support requests for the FLIP Fluid Addon and how to use the support form.

BlenderPhysics: Creative Learning Series

In this video learning series, Dennis Fassbaender will teach you how to use the FLIP Fluids addon for Blender to help you create beautiful and creative simulations! This series focusses on creative effects - for videos on the fundamentals and settings of the FLIP Fluids addon, see the FLIP Fluids addon: The Complete Guide series above.

Episode 1: Get Started (Blender 2.79) Learn the basics! How to install the addon and use FLIP Fluid objects to create simple simulations.
Episode 2: Create a Magic Scene (Blender 2.79) In this episode you will learn about using rigid body obstacles and how to make a very magical glowing whitewater effect!
Episode 3: SlowMotion Sphere (Blender 2.79) In this episode you will learn how to create a very cool slow motion fluid effect of a bullet passing through a sphere of water!
Episode 4: Splash Along a Path (Blender 2.79) In this episode, you will learn how to create a splashing, swirling, fluid effect around a soda can using an inflow following a curve!
Episode 5: Fluids and Fracturing (Blender 2.79) In this episode, you will learn how to combine a Fracture Modifier simulation with a FLIP Fluids simulation!
Episode 6: Wetmaps (Blender 2.8) Now you have your liquid flowing, but how do you make your surfaces look 'wet'? With wetmaps! In this episode, you will learn how to use Blender's dynamic paint features to realistically wet the surfaces that your fluid touches.
Episode 7: Buoyancy Tricks (Blender 2.8) In this episode, we will present a workflow for how you can fake the illusion of floating objects using simple tricks!
Episode 8: Layering Fluid to Make Delicious Sweets (Blender 2.8) In this episode, we will present a workflow for layering multiple fluid simulations by using Blender's Alembic exporter!
Episode 9: Freeze with the FLIP Fluids Addon! (Blender 2.9) In this episode, we will show you techniques for creating liquid freeze effects, layering frozen simulations, and breaking ice using the Fracture Modifier!
Episode 10: Using Text As A Fluid Object (Blender 3.0) In this episode, we will show how to use text objects in a simulation and how to avoid common pitfalls when converting text to mesh objects.
Episode 11: Liquid Transformations Using Force Fields (Blender 3.3) In this episode, we will show you a method of how to attract fluid into the shape of a mesh using force fields and transform between different shapes! The Blend file of this tutorial is available in the FLIP Fluids addon downloads within the Preset Scenes package.
Episode 12: Updated Slow Motion Sphere Tutorial! (Blender 3.5) A remake of the Episode 3 Slowmotion sphere tutorial! There have been a lot of changes in both the FLIP Fluids addon and Blender since the original tutorial was created 5 years ago. This tutorial will show you a new and interesting method of creating this effect using the latest features.
