View: Base PCB v0.5
It's been a little while; it's time for a new (yet also old) formal release! The biggest change since v0.4 is the use of SMD resistors to sense the PCB flex, rather than gluing on strain gauges. This was recently informally stress-tested with 2 days of hands-on demos at Open Sauce 2023, and the resistors held up well with no noticeable calibration issues or drift during that period. While long-term durability is still unknown, that real-world accelerated testing makes me feel confident enough to promote that change to a release for now, and recommend it as a much easier alternative to attaching strain gauges.
- Use 2512 SMD resistors in place of strain gauges (#104)
- LCSC part numbers and notes for M1.6/M2 hardware
- Add alternative MT6701 LCSC/JLC part number
- Adding second footprint for 3V3 voltage regulator (#98) and Add BOM entries and note for new LDO
- Migrate to KiCad 6 (#96)
And a HUGE thank you to Prototype-tier sponsors @xeokeri and (private), and all other sponsors for supporting this project!

- move C10 slightly so that the top paste/stencil is identical to v0.2 (accidentally modified a tiny bit in v0.3). not a big deal, but I already have a v0.2 stencil so this avoids an unnecessary stencil change/reorder

- shorten flexure bridges (decrease slot length) so slots are less visible from above at an angle
- add holes for alignment to back plate
- change 3.3v regulator pinout to match AP2114-HA (In, Gnd, Out)

View: Mechanical v185
STLs exported from v185 of the F360 model. This is still not recommended for general use (and these particular designs have not been tested at all yet), but this release is provided if you'd like to be on the bleeding edge and try building one. It may not work correctly. You have been warned.
In general, tolerances are very tight as the model was designed for a high-resolution 3d print, such as MJF, SLS, or SLA. I was happy with how MJF prints from JLCPCB turned out, and very reasonably priced. (disclaimer: I've paid for all prints up to this point myself, but in the interest of transparency, I have been in discussion with JLCPCB about future sponsorship opportunities, so please consider any potential bias I may have when you consider my recommendation)
Changes:
- Added alignment pins to back plate (requires Base PCB v0.3+) #7
- Increased vertical clearance between LCD in inside of knob by 0.5mm #4
- Added light baffle to MountBase to attempt to reduce LED light bleed inside knob #5
- Added small bumps to knob/spacer slots to hopefully retain the knob #6
NOTE: GitHub requires releases to be associated with a commit in the repo, but as the mechanical design is versioned independently (in Fusion 360 / Autodesk cloud), the source code and commit linked from this release are meaningless. Only the attached .STL files and .f3z file are relevant.
