Steps to Create Sudoku or Puzzle in Penpa

Here you can find a non-exhaustive list of Sudoku and Puzzle Types you can create in Penpa+.

Sudokus

Classic Sudoku

  1. Click on "New grid / Update" button and set the Board type: "Sudoku" and then click on "New grid". Click on "Yes, Reset it" popup.
  2. Select Edit: Problem (Shortcut: press "F2")
  3. Select Mode: Sudoku
  4. Select Sub: Normal
  5. Select Style: Black Color
  6. Enter your given digits into the grid.
  7. Enabling Answer Check and Selecting User Preference Mode
    1. Select Edit: Solution (Shortcut: press "F3")
    2. Select Mode: Sudoku
    3. Select Sub: Normal
    4. Select Style: Blue Color
    5. Enter your solution digits into the grid.
  8. Click on "Share" button
  9. Provide some puzzle info (Optional but Recommended)
    1. Give some Title (e.g. Classic Sudoku (Theme - Boxes))
    2. Add author name
    3. Add rules
    4. If you are trying to create a puzzle from some other source then please provide the Source URL to credit the origins.
  10. Click on "URL with answer check / Extra Options"
  11. Under "AND" column, select the "Number-Normal, L, M, S - Green, Blue, Red" checkmark.
  12. Click on "Generate URL with answer check" button.
  13. Click on "URL_short" button.
  14. Press "CTRL+V" to paste the link and click on "Shorten".
  15. Copy the shortened URL and Save/Share it.

Nanro (SignPost)

  1. Click on "New grid / Update" button and set the Board type: "Square", Set your grid size in "Rows:" and "Columns:"
  2. [Optional] Some may prefer dotted grid lines, in that case set "Gridlines:" to "Dotted Lines". Note - If you have already generated grid with solid lines and started placing clues, you can update your gridlines by using "Update display" button and without resetting your entire grid.
  3. Click on "New grid". Click on "Yes, Reset it" popup.
  4. Select Edit: Problem (Shortcut: press "F2")
  5. Select Mode: Edge
  6. Select Sub: Normal
  7. Select Style: Black
  8. Draw your regions by dragging your mouse over edges
  9. Placing Numbers
    1. Regular Nanro:
      1. Select Mode: Number
      2. Select Sub: Normal
      3. Select Style: Black
      4. Start placing numbers in the grid
    2. Nanro Signpost:
      1. Select Mode: Number
      2. Select Sub: Corner (Image with 1 2 3 4 in the corners)
      3. Select Style: Black
      4. Start placing numbers in the grid
  10. Enabling Answer Check and Selecting User Preference Mode
    1. Select Edit: Solution (Shortcut: press "F3")
    2. Select Mode: Number (One can also use Mode: Sudoku if the numbers range is 0 to 9)
    3. Select Sub: Normal
    4. Select Style: Green Color or Blue Color
    5. Place the solution digits
  11. Click on "Share" button
  12. Provide some puzzle info (Optional but Recommended)
    1. Give some Title (e.g. Nanro (Theme - LOL))
    2. Add author name
    3. Add rules
    4. If you are trying to create a puzzle from some other source then please provide the Source URL to credit the origins.
  13. Click on "URL with answer check / Extra Options"
  14. Under "AND" column, select the "Number-Normal, L, M, S - Green, Blue, Red" checkmark.
  15. Click on "Generate URL with answer check" button.
  16. Click on "URL_short" button.
  17. Press "CTRL+V" to paste the link and click on "Shorten".
  18. Copy the shortened URL and Save/Share it.

Masyu

  1. Click on "New grid / Update" button and set the Board type: "Square", Set your grid size in "Rows:" and "Columns:"
  2. [Optional] Some may prefer dotted grid lines, in that case set "Gridlines:" to "Dotted Lines". Note - If you have already generated grid with solid lines and started placing clues, you can update your gridlines by using "Update display" button and without resetting your entire grid.
  3. Click on "New grid". Click on "Yes, Reset it" popup.
  4. Select Edit: Problem (Shortcut: press "F2")
  5. Select Mode: Shape (Default is Circles, so a panel with circle choices will pop up)
  6. Select Style: "Behind Lines"
  7. Place your shapes into the grid (You can select in Panel or use keyboard shortcuts 1,2,3...)
  8. [Optional] - In case you need to use some shading, Select Mode: Surface
  9. Enabling Answer Check and Selecting User Preference Mode
    1. Select Edit: Solution (Shortcut: press "F3")
    2. Select Mode: Line
    3. Select Sub: Normal
    4. Select Style: Green Color
    5. Draw the Loop by dragging your mouse from center to center of the cells.
  10. Click on "Share" button
  11. Provide some puzzle info (Optional but Recommended)
    1. Give some Title (e.g. Masyu (Theme - Square))
    2. Add author name
    3. Add rules
    4. If you are trying to create a puzzle from some other source then please provide the Source URL to credit the origins.
  12. Click on "URL with answer check / Extra Options"
  13. Under "AND" column, select the "Line - Green, Double" checkmark.
  14. Click on "Generate URL with answer check" button.
  15. Click on "URL_short" button.
  16. Press "CTRL+V" to paste the link and click on "Shorten".
  17. Copy the shortened URL and Save/Share it.
