The ideas listed in this page haven't been "claimed" at the time of writing. You can use this as a source of inspiration if you're looking for something to work on.

  • A program that returns a random xkcd comic number on exit (note: this could replace some of the functionality of xkcd-fetch).
  • A text adventure that involves raptors, red spiders and/or submarines (note: several variants of this idea are in various stages of development, including an adventure shell and an adventure browser).
  • A text stream processor that takes TeX formulas as input and outputs LaTeX typesetting code, with the same formulas but with hearts substituted for random parts of the original formulas.
  • A compiler wrapper that warns you about segfaults (like in xkcd #371).
  • A program that generates a love formula for a given xkcd comic number (see what I did there)?
  • The obligatory esoteric language
  • A command called "beret" that does... something. SOMETHING.
  • A 2d game using the xkcd characters with comics serving as a backdrop or storyline (see this forum post for the full vision by qubital).
  • A "foreach" command, for the generics maniacs.
  • A command that displays xkcd comics, preferably from the xkcd-fetch cache (you can use summon to display images).
  • A board game with xkcd characters (i.e., chess with the set being xkcd characters or Mahjong).
  • A version of Conway's Game of Life with multiplying red spiders of grids (note: xen-0 is currently working on another game of life variant).
  • A command that can parse and edit the ~/.profile on unixy systems (see issue #32).
  • A command that rebuilds and reinstalls the commands that have been changed in the latest git checkout (see issue #34).
  • Convenience commands for common workflow Git actions: see issue #35.
  • Petrovich.
  • A six-legged ASCII spider for printing on the terminal (see here and onwards).
  • A Gource visualisation of our repository activity.
  • A chatbot for our IRC channel.
  • A program that takes a random song off of Soundcloud and mixes it with two youtube videos randomly mixed together with pre programmed effects for the music video. (Credit: Stu Pickles from the xkcd forums.)
    • It would be extremely neat to sync the cuts between each video to the beat of the song.
