The distribution extension is defined as:
Geographic distribution of a taxon
It allows to express where a species occurs (on a broad geographic scale, e.g. for a country) and what status it has there. A single taxon can have multiple distribution records. The extension contains a mix of Darwin Core and other terms. Depending on the source data, we recommend to use the following terms:
term | mapping | example |
---|---|---|
taxonID | foreign key to the Taxon core | alien-fishes-checklist:taxon:dec8ee68b3fae146c056b4972e3e6b83 |
locality | free form | Flemish Region |
countryCode | vocabulary | BE |
occurrenceStatus | vocabulary | present |
threatStatus | vocabulary (mainly for red list species) | endangered |
establishmentMeans | vocabulary (mainly for alien species) | introduced |
source | a citation | Verreycken et al. 2018 |
occurrenceRemarks | free form | based on citizen science observations |
For the full list of terms and definitions, see Species Distribution. For detailed information on how to publish a Darwin Core Archive checklist, see the GBIF Best Practices in Publishing Species Checklists.
