## Filling the massive gaps in space lidar datasets with a diffusion model

![](img/icesat_gedi.png){:width="300px"}

As you saw during the GEO1015 lecture of Maarten Pronk, space lidar datasets, [ICESat-2](https://icesat-2.gsfc.nasa.gov/) and [GEDI](https://gedi.umd.edu/), have very sparse distribution (often kilometres with no data) and thus a global coverage is difficult.

The aim of this thesis is to test, compare to others, and further develop the deep learning diffusion model presented [in this paper](https://doi.org/10.1109/LGRS.2024.3403835).

The [project has open-source code](https://github.com/kylelo/Diff-DEM), Python can be used.
