  1. (iOS) I would like Vocable to have a different voice, can I change it?

Yes- you can!

Navigate to the iPad Settings —> Accessibility.

Choose “Spoken Content”.

Choose “Voices”.

Choose “English”.

Choose or download the voice you would like to use.

Open Vocable AAC application, choose a phrase, and hear the new voice!

On the “Spoken Content” screen, you can also change the “Speaking Rate” if you would like the Vocable speaker to talk faster or slower. This is also where you can add Pronunciations for specific words.

Note: The Vocable AAC app only supports English voices at this time.

  1. (iOS) Where do you get the predictive text for the keyboard?

We use _______ which shows the same predictions as Apple uses when typing using the native keyboard. You can find more information about Apple’s predictive text on their website.

  1. (iOS) Why do you need access to my camera? And do you save any of my data?

The Vocable app uses ARKit head tracking to detect the user's face as seen in the device's TrueDepth front camera feed for the purpose of controlling an on-screen pointer, allowing users with limited mobility to interact with the app. Head orientation and position data is used expressly for controlling the on-screen pointer. That head tracking data is not stored or transmitted in any way.

  1. How can I give my feedback to the team?

We would love your feedback! Please feel free to email us at [email protected]. We are always looking for individuals who can do some usability testing of the app!

  1. (iOS) I'm not hearing any sound from the app, is something wrong? (4/7/20)

The app requires the device to not be in silent mode (i.e. the silence button on the left side of the device is "off" to ensure that sound is on; Do Not Disturb is turned off). An update is coming to override this so that a device can remain in silent mode and the spoken output can still be heard.
