Supermium 126.0.6478.254 R4

Compare
Choose a tag to compare

The Chromium base was updated from 126.0.6478.249 to 126.0.6478.259 to reflect the ESR patches in that period. This may help with a few issues that were not tied to a Supermium-specific problem, such as random renderer crashes on Windows 7.

Other changes are as follows:
-(#760 and others) removed loader deadlock in memory partition area on Windows 7
-(#915) added option to disable Crashpad, --disable-crashpad
-(#588) changing default behaviour for icon loading on download page due to excessive process creation and poorer variety of icons. Use --force-generic-download-icons to restore this functionality.
-(#898) added double click to close tabs feature from Thorium, --double-click-close-tab
-(#946) crash when adding bookmarks while --no-sync in use, is fixed
-(#916) PDF loading bug on Windows 7 fixed, with change in fallback font from Arial to Arial Unicode MS
-(#937) Patcher introduced for Widevine CDM on Windows 7. It is located in the base Supermium directory and is named win7_fixwidevine.cmd. It is based on the default user data location, users with a non-default user data directory will have to change it accordingly. Use each time a new Widevine release has been downloaded (there are no auto-updates for integrity reasons, so this should only need to be done sparingly).
-(#912, #955) hashes are now available in SHA2-256 and SHA3-512 format for each file in the Releases directory
-(#906) --history-journeys and --side-panel-journeys restored
-(#871) Dark mode implementation fixed and duplicate options removed, replaced with unique options
-(#899) Zip distribution added for XP users who may not be able to run the installer due to error 6 (OS issue if persistent)

Supermium 126.0.6478.254 R4 (Debugging Release)

Compare
Choose a tag to compare

This release is to test for the continued presence of issues #889, #892 #916 and #959. Thin LTO optimization has been disabled.

Furthermore, the regular releases have been supplemented by special debugging releases, named supermium_debug_release_XX.7z, where XX represents the native architecture of the package. There is more debugging information available than usual, more sanity checks, and call stacks and dump information are written directly to logs and the command line (if command line logging is enabled).

Pre-release

Supermium 126 is the first release using Chromium ESR tags. This means that Supermium will remain on version 126 until February 2025 and focus on fixing bugs and adding features instead of continuously performing major rebases. This will be important to deal with the ongoing removal of classic Chrome theming and the upcoming removal of Manifest V3 from standard Chromium.

Re-download if you have installed Supermium 126 before 1945 UTC on September 3 2024. Issue #849 affected earlier releases of version 126, and it has now been corrected.

Changes in this release:
(#820) - heap corruption fixed when loading DirectWrite on Windows XP x86
(#814, #832) - libraries included to support DirectWrite now included
(#838) - UACH is now disabled using the following syntax: --disable-feature=EnableUserAgentClientHint and UACH data will no appear with JavaScript
(#807) - memory leak when searching long lines using Ctrl+F removed
-Classic Chrome theming maintained in address bar, menus, and the new tab button. Windows 11 menu metrics have been disabled by default; use --win11-menus to restore them or use them on non-Windows 11 systems.

Last release before rebase to Supermium 126. This is a short-term release to serve users dealing with several issues before the rebase is completed within the next ten days, with changes specific to Chromium 126.

Some bug fixes have been applied:
-(#761) Anti-aliasing of fonts now enabled by default, even when system font smoothing is disabled, due to poor visual appearance. To revert this change, use the flag --disable-browser-font-smoothing-win.
-(#722) Black backgrounds no longer appear behind UI elements when DWM is disabled or not available.
-(#720) DirectWriteCore now bundled with Supermium, as well as Noto Color Emoji. Colour emojis and other modern DirectWrite features are now available on Windows XP/Vista/7/8.x, as well as remote fonts, printing, etc. VC++ 2015 runtime needed to use this version of DirectWrite, or else it will fall back to GDI or older DirectWrite
-(#779) UACH now defaults to Google Chrome. It is also possible to disable UACH outright using the flag --remove-client-hints or associated feature as done in older Chromium versions.
-(#733) Installer now places desktop shortcuts in proper locations. Browser is registered in HKCU on Windows 8 and above if installing for a single user. The changes have also reduced the number of AV detections for the 32 bit Supermium installer.
-(#588) Flag --force-generic-download-icons introduced to prevent creation of excess number of processes when viewing download history.
