Current Development Activities

Puneet

  • Yesterday released 5.0.0 M1
  • Next in line in 5.0.0 RC1
    • Will include the latest version of Spock and Micronaut
    • There are also some minor issues to take a look at it
    • This will likely be available next week
  • Releasing Grails 4.0.7 today with some patch dependency upgrades and minor bug fixes
  • I need to update our roadmap to include details for upcoming releases
  • I'm thinking about pulling Grails GSP out of Grails Core
    • James: That was attempted a while ago and we ended up keeping it in there
    • James: There were a lot of things that were interdependent
    • James: It was a while ago, and I don't really remember the details
  • Does anyone have ideas for upcoming Grails 5 minor release features? You can think about it and get back to me.
    • James: I don't have specific ideas, but one thing that you could do is go back through the old issues and look for ideas there

James

  • Have we recently discussed refactoring Grails to work on top of Micronaut?
    • James: Changing Grails to be built on top of Micronaut will help us maintain less code
    • Puneet: If we move to Micronaut, that will be a significant change
    • Puneet: We should think about how to break this into chunks so that we can move in pieces
    • James: It would definitely be a multi-step migration
    • Puneet: Whatever we do, we need to have a clear migration path
