Wiki Reorganisation |
---|
This page has been classified for reorganisation. It has been given the category MOVE. |
The content of this page will be revised and moved to one or more other pages in the new wiki structure. |
Please follow these steps to register and download data from the ESGF system.
-
Browser Selection . At this time, we recommend using FireFox for best results during the registration process. Support for Chrome and Internet Explorer is forthcoming.
-
Registration . Access any of the ESGF portals (for example, the PCMDI portal) and click on the "Create Account" link. Enter your information. You will be assigned an "OpenID" (a URL string) that you will be using to login throughout the federation. Although your browser should remember it, makes sure to write down your OpenID somewhere. Your registration is effective immediately - there is no need to wait for a confirmation email.
1. Note that since the old Gateways will soon not be supported any more, it is recommended that you create an account with the new system even if you have an "OpenID" from the old system.
-
Browser Download . Try to download at least one file from the browser. To do so, use the "search" page on the ESGF portal and find any data that is of interest to you. Add a dataset to the "Data Cart", then click on the "Data Cart" tab and "expand" the dataset to show the files. Click on the "HTTP" link to download one file. If the data is restricted, you will be asked to first login, and then possibly join a membership group that is entitled to download those data. For example, you might need to join "CMIP5 Research" or "CMIP5 Commercial".
-
wget scripts . After you have successfully downloaded a file from the web browser, and registered with the appropriate group, you may start creating "wget" scripts to download files more efficiently.
